A national cybersecurity authority, with a new logo and a website rebuilt from the ground up.

For AKSK, Albania’s National Cyber Security Authority, we designed a new logo and then redesigned, rebuilt and fully migrated its official website around it, with an AI assistant trained on AKSK’s own data and a dedicated accessibility panel. The goal was a platform that meets the standards AKSK sets for everyone else: secure by design, accessible to every citizen, and easy for its own staff to run.

The challenge

Citizens, businesses and critical-infrastructure operators go to the AKSK website first when they need to report an incident, check an active vulnerability alert or find the law. Over the years the old site had grown into a long archive with no clear hierarchy. Reporting paths were hard to find, the transparency content required by law was a wall of text, and every change depended on developers.

02

A new logo for the institution

Before designing a single web page, we designed a new AKSK logo. It modernises the institution’s existing lettering and colours instead of discarding them.

  • A geometric “aksk” wordmark built from clean shapes, and legible even at favicon size
  • A circuit motif inside the first letter: a network of nodes and traces that ties the mark to cybersecurity without the usual shields and padlocks
  • The full institutional name set beside the mark on four lines, so the logo is recognisable on its own
  • Three versions: full colour, white for dark backgrounds and navy for light ones

The logo went through six review rounds with AKSK, from first concepts on 23 June to the approved final on 23 July 2026. It is now in the website header, the browser icon and across the new site, built on the same navy and green.

Design approved before a line of production code

We published a clickable Alpha version instead of static images. AKSK staff reviewed it on desktop, tablet and phone over several feedback rounds. In those rounds the navigation was regrouped, the FAQ was replaced by an AI assistant, and a simple accessibility bar became a full side panel. Changes landed at the stage where they cost almost nothing, before the build.

04

A dedicated platform, not a bought theme

“AKSK Modern” is a custom WordPress theme written for this project. From the admin panel, in both languages and without touching code, staff can edit every homepage section, the menus, the footer, “About us”, bulletins and security alerts. Every field falls back to existing content, so leaving one empty never breaks the public site.

  • Security alerts content type with severity, CVE identifier, CVSS score and advisory link
  • Hero slider fed automatically by the latest news
  • PDF bulletins with every legacy link preserved
  • Statistics, services, international memberships and child-online-protection sections
  • A team directory with 24 members
05

One place to report

A dedicated AKSK-CSIRT reporting hub sends each audience to the right path, and a “Report” button sits in the header of every page.

  • Cyber incident · Phishing · Illegal content involving children
  • Critical infrastructure · Assistance requests · Regulatory declarations
06

An AI assistant that knows AKSK

AKSK asked us to replace the static FAQ with something that actually answers people. We built an AI chatbot personalised with AKSK’s own data: legislation, services, reporting procedures, contacts and the questions citizens ask most. It answers in plain language on every page of the site, at any hour.

  • Grounded in AKSK’s official content, not the open internet
  • Sends people to the right reporting path and official sources
  • Styled in AKSK’s colours, with calm, clear and action-oriented answers
  • AKSK staff can update what it knows without touching code
07

Zero-loss bilingual migration

We migrated 372 pages, 1,227 posts and 6,203 media items. That includes malware analyses, incident and CVE reports, playbooks, bulletins, legislation and the Transparency Programme. Albanian and English versions are linked page-for-page, and existing URLs were kept wherever they held search rankings.

08

Paneli i Aksesueshmërisë: an accessibility panel on every page

The site is built to WCAG 2.1 AA, the level EU institutions apply. On top of that, we designed and developed our own accessibility panel as a dedicated WordPress plugin, following the model of Albania’s e-albania.al public portal. A floating button opens it on every page of the site.

  • Content: three text sizes (A, A+ and A++), highlighted headings and links, a dyslexia-friendly font, letter spacing, line height and bold text
  • Colour: dark mode, high contrast, monochrome and high saturation
  • Tools: a reading guide, paused animations and a large cursor
  • Choices are remembered across pages, and a single “reset” restores the defaults
  • Fully keyboard-accessible itself, with focus kept inside the panel, Escape to close and focus returned to where the visitor was
  • 100% BOTA code: no third-party widget, no subscription, and no visitor data sent anywhere

Secure by design

Every custom module was code-reviewed before release. Fonts and icons are self-hosted, so visitors’ browsers never contact third-party CDNs, which is better for privacy under GDPR and for supply-chain risk. The code is also ready for a strict Content-Security-Policy. Trimming the icon set to the glyphs actually used cut it from about 820 KB to about 4 KB.

10

Handover & long-term care

AKSK’s editorial staff received a complete administration guide in Albanian and hands-on training. A two-year maintenance, security and SEO engagement follows.
